Bio: Andy Foerster

Andy develops leaders who deliver results at all organizational levels and helps people become more effective in their leadership roles. He does this from the perspective of someone who has been a leader at all levels, including CEO. He does not simply teach about leadership; rather he facilitates a multi-dimensional application and action program that helps leaders know themselves, know their people, and know their stuff.

Andy Foerster graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1981, spent seven years on active duty as a nuclear submarine officer, and thirty years in the private sector in several management and executive roles. Andy has a proven history of monetizing technological innovation by providing customers with high-return solutions. He has organized and operated highly successful businesses as a CEO, President, CTO, and General Manager by using Internet of Things (IoT)-related technologies in industries as diverse as lighting control, uninterruptible power systems, and digital signage.

In Andy’s many years of experience, he has found that successful organizations must have two things: 1) Engaged employees empowered by positive leaders, and 2) A business operating system that brings a disciplined – and continuously improved – way of execution. For Andy, “The Magic Is In The Middle,” where effective leaders inspire employees to overachieve in a consistent way.

Andy has a passion for teaching and mentoring; that is a big reason for his success in the business world. From helping junior officers qualify in submarines to mentoring new General Managers in his companies as they learned to develop a value proposition and execute a strategy, Andy has always practiced leading as a coach. He now does this in affiliation with Academy Leadership, a group of graduates of Annapolis and West Point who are retired business executives and current advisors of new leaders.

Andy was President and CEO of Piller Inc. and President of Masco Technical Innovations, and CTO of LSI Industries. He was the founder of Creative Energy Control LLC, which specialized in lighting control. He held GM and senior management positions at Square D (Schneider Electric) and Eaton.

Andy earned the BSEE at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, the MBA at Marymount University, and the MSEE at George Mason University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer. He is the father of four. He is an experienced BSA Scoutmaster and is active with the youth program at his church. In his spare time, he enjoys flying (as a private pilot, instrument rated) and amateur radio (AC8WQ).
